28The story about Sonic
------------------------------------³«The ¹TRUE³ story about Sonic»²------------------------------------³By: ¹Murk/Sonic³
³Sonic² was formed by the following members: ³Tomy², ³Stargazer²,
³Blitman², ³Jack², ³Merlin² and me, ³Murk². Oh, Pro-testor and Acer were
also both members of this new team. They got kicked, or then they left. I can't
really remeber.. Anyway, all this happened in autumn '90.
Sonic's
first demo was released the 30th november '90, which was a demo contaning
some vectors and a nice dot-sine. Our next release was a little demo for
the Savage party-compo. Catman/Wizzcat was kind enuff to take the demo to
the party. After that there was a long period of silence. At this point I
could mention, that the only ³active² members were ¹Tomy² and ¹Stargazer².
At the time I swapped a lot, but I didn't draw any GFX or so.
Jack and Blitman were both dead and lazy. Then in January, I found a nice
sysop, ³Vortex². After a couple of days, he decided to join our group. At
that time Tomy was the leader. The main problem was that while Merlin and I
lived in the southern Finland, the rest of the members live over 100
kilometers from here. So me never had any meetings etc. and we didn't have
too much contact. Back then I was happy about it, now I can't understand
what was the point of group with no ¹REAL² friendship.
Some time later Vortex's machine broke down. Great! Anyway, the
biggest problem was that Tomy was supposed to be the main coder, but
he's one of the laziest coders I know. (He's also one of the best..) Anyway,
a month later, Vortex found a new BBS, with HST and so on. So that was
when ³Illegal² joined us. I told Tomy to make a BBS Into, and after 6 weeks
he managed to put a tiny intro together. One day I got a call from Flame/
NC and he asked if he could join us. Ok, so he did. We released the BBS intro
at the Anarchy Easter Conf. '91 in Nykoping, Sweden.
A month or two later, SGR and Commie (ex-Flame)
decided to join some other group. They ended up in TSB. Tomy and SGR called
me up and we had a long talk about Sonic. Tomy wanted to quit the whole
shit, but that was something I just couldn't do. So I told Tomy to wait a
few weeks. Then we managed to get a new coder, ³Link², who was an old friend of
Merlin. Ok, so we continued. I was the new leader of Sonic. But Tomy wasn't
interested in the coding all the time, so he kinda left the scene.
Blitman and Jack, who hadn't done anything, also quit the scene. Some time
later I found ³Oxide² in some BBS and he soon joined our group as a musician.
Then we released an intro in the beginning of May.
Time passed.. Maverick joined us a Modem-Trader/Sysop, although his
BBS was down all the time. Then I managed to get two more coders, Shade and
Hack, to join us just before the Society Summer Conf. At that party we
released BBS Intro part 2, now advertising our both boards. Wow! Oh,
³Rap-D²,
who's and old and good friend of me, also joined as a graphican. At that
time we kicked out a lame GFX man called Boomer and ³a ¹VERY³ lame & young
modem-trader called Squat.²
We did nothing during the summer, except for some boozing. Then
schools started and we started working on many different things. At that
time a dude named ³Rainbow/Wizzcat² called me, and he was searching for a new
team. After some days, he decided to join us. He changed his name to
Arse. Some months later he changed his name to ¹Kissarobotti².
(He's the dude behind the graphics for this mag.)
I almost forgot.. ³Deflector² joined us in the beginning of July,
he's a coder. Sometime this autumn, October I think, I saw the ad of a dude
called ³Shortie/Sonic Developments². I thought that there can't be two teams
with almost the same name, so I wrote to him. A couple of weeks later I got
an answer from him, telling that they formed SD back in 1985-6. SHIT! OK,
stay cool I told myself. Well, the LAST thing I wanted was a somekinda war
between us, like Frantic Finland vs. Germany. So I suggested a co-op. Ok,
they agreed, and sent me some GFX. Since the graphics were quite nice, so I
told them to join us, and they agreed ! Phew! One problem less, eh? Ok, so
we now have members in BOTH Finland and U.K. ³But there is ¹ONLY³ one Sonic,
¹not³ Sonic UK or Sonic SF. We will ³never²,¹ NEVER² take any foreign divisions,
we just wanna be '³one HUGE family²' ! How sweet, eh ?! :)
Then, in the end of January '92, a norwegian dude called Slimer
left Flash Prod. to join us. So we now have members in Finland, UK and
Norway! He's a musician and a swapper.
About our prods. We have now released a not-so-kewl X-MAS demo, a New Year's
intro and a MINTRO. Lined up
for release are sum intros, a dentro, a music disk and some trainers! So
stay tuned, will ya!?
